AKT Development gift to Natomas schools is $750K
Sacramento Business Journal

Angelo K. Tsakopoulos' AKT Development Corp. is giving $750,000 to the Natomas Unified School District toward a $1.6 million system to assist students of all levels, including seniors who need help passing the California High School Exit Exam. The developer will challenge other business leaders to put up the difference and volunteer as mentors to the kids.

Details are supposed to be disclosed Wednesday. The system by HOSTS Learning includes software and a database to help teachers build individual academic plans and match students with mentors. A test run this year helped 25 of the 57 seniors who hadn't passed the exam clear the hurdle in just weeks.

Meanwhile, there's talk around the district that Tsakopoulos may be mulling a low-priced sale of some of his unincorporated land in Natomas for a future high school and elementary school -- possibly as much as 40 acres for the schools, a church and park land west of Interstate 5 and Del Paso Road.

That's south of Greenbriar Farms, the 577 acres owned by a Tsakopoulos/Woodside Homes partnership. The partnership wants Greenbriar annexed into Sacramento for development.

Tsakopoulos was out of town, an AKT rep said when called for comment.
